Registered Nurse CV checker
Your registration, your specialty and your years in it. For clinical roles these are screening facts, not background detail, and they belong at the very top.
What recruiters search
For this role: licence or registration status, specialty, such as ICU or paediatrics, years in the specialty.
The parsed text
What a parser pulled out of your file, so a broken layout is visible rather than invisible.
Specific rewrites
The weak lines replaced with ones you can use, not a note telling you to be more impactful.

Healthcare screening is more rules-based than most fields. Missing credentials are a genuine automatic filter, not a soft negative, so the top of the document should read almost like a form.
What a registered nurse CV has to establish first
Your registration, your specialty and your years in it. For clinical roles these are screening facts, not background detail, and they belong at the very top.
A reader decides whether to keep going within a few seconds, and that decision is made on the top third of page one. Everything after it is evidence for a judgement that has already started.
The terms recruiters search for
Recruiters find candidates by searching the database, so a term the posting uses and your document does not makes you absent from the results rather than rejected. For this role the searches tend to be:
- licence or registration status
- specialty, such as ICU or paediatrics
- years in the specialty
- certifications
- the EHR system in use
Cross off anything untrue, then make sure what remains appears in a real sentence about real work rather than in a keyword block. The method, and where its limit is.
Three mistakes registered nurse CVs make
1. Leaving registration and certifications implicit
These are often hard filters. Spell out the licence, the state or country, the expiry if relevant, and every current certification.
2. No patient load or setting
Beds, ratios, acuity, unit type. Two nurses with the same title have had very different jobs and this is how a reader tells.
3. A generic duties list
Provided patient care appears on thousands of nursing resumes. The specialty detail is what distinguishes yours.
One line, rewritten
| What people write | What a reader can use |
|---|---|
| Provided care for patients on a busy medical ward | Held a 1:4 ratio on a 32-bed cardiac unit, precepting two new graduates through their first rotation |
The left column describes a job that existed. The right describes a person who did something. You do not need impressive numbers, only actual ones.
What differs outside North America
This is where a resume and a CV genuinely diverge. UK applications need NMC registration with your PIN, not a state licence, and the band of the role you are applying for matters. Australia needs AHPRA registration. The Gulf often requires a DataFlow verification and a licence from the specific emirate or region. Writing US state licensure on a UK application signals you have not read the requirements.
The general conventions apply too: two pages is normal for a UK or Australian CV, no photo in the UK, Ireland or Australia, and leave off age, marital status and nationality. The full comparison.
Before you send it
Select all the text in your CV, copy it, and paste it into any plain text editor. That is close to what the screening software receives. If your name and number are missing, or your job titles have merged into your dates, you have found something worth fixing before anything else.
